Day 30: Challenge Day - Simple Design

 For the last day of our month of nail art, my friend challenged me to do something simple. So I decided to take a multichrome polish since I already have trouble covering up the lovely shifting hues, and just add a tiny accent.

 I used a single coat of the amazing Dance Legend Knight over China Glaze Liquid Leather. I love this copper-to-pewter multichrome so much, it's magic!

 As a tiny little accent, I added a metal square to my middle two nails and put a square nail gem in the center. Not much, just something for a little extra punch.

Day 27: Holographic Heaven

 I'm definitely going to have to take some photos of sparkly holo goodness in the sunlight tomorrow! I love linear holos so much. They're like magic!

 I began with a coat of KBShimmer Myth You Lots over Wet n Wild Black Creme. Myth You Lots is one of my favorite polishes, bar none. It's so shifty and holo-tastic! It's always so hard to do anything to cover up that loveliness, so I decided to go minimal.

 I decided to test out the stamping decal technique using a design from Pueen plate 32. I removed a bit from the bottom of the design to give more space for the silver to shine. The black stamping was done in B.M.C. Noir Black. I filled in the spaces with blue holo Color Club Over the Moon and silver holo Color Club Harp on It. I like how the colors compliment the shifty multichrome rather well, even when it shifts to warmer hues.

Day 8: Pendant Nails

 For my jewelry inspiration I decided on a pendant I own. It's a cheap faux-abalone shell pendant with a nifty shape and diamond pattern. It seemed a fun challenge to try to recreate!

 I began by blocking out the shape with the dark teal, Sinful Colors Calypso. I was a bit sad that my negative space ovals didn't turn out perfect, but oh well. Next, I blotched on some shimmery teals with China Glaze Deviantly Daring and Essie Beach Bum Blu. A touch of Sinful Colors Bali Mist in some areas added that pink opalescent effect, but for some reason I couldn't catch it on camera.

 I took a small brush and Wet n Wild Metallica to add the silver border detail and the swoosh. Within the swoosh, I added a curving line of silver microbeads transitioning into a set of teal nail gems.

Glitter Everywhere!

 Glitter placement is time consuming, but I love it! It's kind of relaxing when you get in the rhythm of it. And I love the super shiny effect!

 For this, since I knew I was going to do full coverage I didn't want to exhaust my reserves of solvent-resistant glitter. So I grabbed some cheap craft glitter instead! I decided on a purple, teal, and holographic silver trio. I love this color combo!

 I did put a base color of Wet n Wild Black Creme down first, then used a non-fast dry clear coat to give the glitter something to stick to. Laying down the pattern itself was pretty easy! I started with the silver band closest to the base of the nail, then worked out from there in both directions.

 After I finished my left hand, I was running out of time for my right. I did only a partial pattern, and actually like how that worked too! With this, I only did one series of silver-blue-purple, then ran a single line of repeating pattern down the center.

 Because the glitter wasn't solvent resistant, I thought I would try to prevent bleeding by using the same water-based clear gloss varnish I use to prevent foils from wrinkling. It did work, but had the odd side effect of turning the purple glitter into a UV-reactive glitter that glowed bright orange!

So weird! I would love to know what was going on there. It was still normal purple in regular light!

Tiger Foils

 I think foil transfer is a ton of fun! I picked up this really cool foil of printed tiger fur with sparkly holographic white zones. This was a bit of an unplanned experiment of whatever sounded good at the time, but I like it!

 I put a base color of Wet n Wild Black Creme down, since I find it hard to get 100% coverage on foils without some creasing and black hides that really well with this pattern. And really, I didn't have as much trouble as I was expecting!

 For my ring accent nail, I thought I would experiment with foiling an oval metal stud. Trying to foil over just the metal did not work, so I painted over it with more black polish before applying the foil. That still looked a little bare, so I framed it in tiny metal beads. I then decided to go all-out and added some holographic silver diamond glitter and then applied more foil across the tip. Woo!

Crackled Ombre

 I decided to go to my spreadsheet of polish for inspiration, and utilize the first polish I had listed as still untried. That turned out to be a crackle polish! For an interesting effect, I did a horizontal ombre under it and mirrored the gradient with teardrop studs. I love it!

 The ombre was created using SpaRitual Dreams Becoming Reality on my thumb, Nicole by OPI I Sea You and Raise You on my index, Sally Hansen Blue-ming Fast on my middle, Julep Bess on my ring, and Tea Beauty Mint Leaf on my pinkie.

 The crackle polish is Sally Hansen Star Burst, a black crackle with a generous mix of silver glitter. I was a bit worried that it was going to be a bit too goopy to work, but it cracked easily once applied. I really like the effect when paired with the changing shades of blue.  As a last touch, I used three colors of teardrop studs to mirror the ombre.

I really have started to enjoy messing around with nail foil. I've gotten better at working out the wrinkles, and now I think I've even found a combo that works so that the top coat doesn't wrinkle or cloud the shiny design.

 I just received a whole variety of awesome nail foil from Dollar Nail Art, and I really couldn't wait to use it! As soon as I opened the box, I started prepping for these nails.

 I decided to start first with this lovely bright silver holographic "wave" design. It proved frustratingly hard to capture the bright holographic flair in my lightbox, but keep scrolling for some bright colors at the end of this post!

Next, I decided to stamp a boxy design from Bundle Monster plate 322 using Wet n Wild Black Creme. I like that it breaks up the silver while still letting plenty of the holographic goodness show through. To compliment that design, I added matte black diamond glitter (also from Dollar Nail Art) to my thumb, middle, and pinkie nails.

Shimmering Roses

 Still playing catch up with nails from April! This time I was trying out some stamping with holo polish. I'm glad I was able to catch some of the glorious rainbow-prism effect on camera this time! I'm including both sets of photos, as the glare on the bright holo photos rather obscured the rose design.

 I began with a base of Revlon Impulsive, which is a very nice purple creme. I am definitely partial to cool toned grapey purples!

 Next, I stamped on designs from Pueen plate 27, a nice rose over a crosshatched or fishnet pattern. My ring and thumbnails feature roses over the crosshatch background, while the other nails have similar roses over the fishnet pattern. I used Color Club Harp On It for stamping, as it is amazing. I love linear holos!

Day 8: Mirror Reflection

 This theme was the perfect chance to play with the super-chrome fun that is OPI Push and Shove! The one downside was that it showed where one nail was undergoing a tea bag repair, so I improvised with adding some holographic nail foil to obscure that!

 I started by using the included basecoat with the set, then added two coats of OPI Push and Shove. I then spent the next hour or so having too much fun admiring how reflective it was! I then added the holographic foil to my ring and thumb nails and spent way too much time watching it shift and shimmer.

 Because there's never enough sparkle in the world, I then added a little Sephora by OPI Beam Me Up, Hottie! as it is nearly as bright as the foil.

Day 7: Black and White

 I might have gone a tad bit overboard with this prompt, but I was in the mood to play around with different designs! It turned into a medley of different finishes and textures, and stood up rather well through a full day of work!

 I am trying to spread the love to some more of my lesser-used polish, so I started with two coats of Ciaté Chalkboard Paint, a lovely black matte polish. Next, I attempted a criss cross pattern on my thumb and middle finger. I used Milani White Canvas, which is a striper polish, to lay down parallel white lines. I then crossed that with Milani Black Sketch, another nail art striper.  To add another contrast to the mixI used a striper brush and China Glaze Bump in the Night to give the black stripes a lovely texture.

 For my index and pinkie fingers, I first put down two crossing lines of Milani Blank Canvas, then added two stripes of Milani Black Sketch directly above them. Once that was dry, I added a light coat of Salon Perfect Touchy Feely, which is a black and white matte microglitter.

I went a little crazy on my ring finger. I used some black and silver caviar beads from a kit I snagged at Icing, and placed silver beads in rows on my nail. I then placed black beads in a crossing pattern in between the silver rows, but the topcoat obscured that effect a little. Considering how much was on that nail, I was surprised that it didn't feel heavy or bulky all day!
