Musical Manicure

Sheet music! No, the song isn't really a song. I couldn't think of a good one to use, so I just put notes in at random. Layered up a few polishes for the parchment look. Started with NYC Vanilla Dream, then decided to go a little warmer so I layered on Pure Ice Best Friend. On top of that I sponged some dark brown (China Glaze Goin' My Way) and light brown (Confetti Debutante). The ring finger was done in Revlon Ritzy, a black polish with silver large and small hex glitter. The musical staff and notes were done in black with a striper brush and a dotting tool, and on the ring finger I used a gold nail art polish. Woo!

Owly Fun Times!

I was challenged by a good friend to create forest nails with an owl. It sounded like too much fun to pass up!

I ended up using a lot of various shimmery polishes, so the entire end effect looked like foil stickers. Painted the trees using a dotting tool, a small brush, and my metal toothpick. Brought out the striping brush for the grass. I'm rather happy that the owl even came out on my dominant hand. I was worried that I was over-committing myself on the details!

Ridiculously Complicated Black and White Insanity

Black and white nails to attempt to match a dress! The dress is actually white on black like my ring finger nails, but I was trying to do an inverse on the rest of my nails. Up close it looks a little smoogey and chaotic, but I like the effect from a distance! Everything painted with an itty bitty brush, a few dotting tools, and my metal toothpick tool.

Purty Flowers

Flowers! I was tired of hearts, and wanted to do something for the spring-like weather we were having here. After putting on a base coat of a nice beige, I sponged on a layer of shimmer polish over the lower part of each nail. It's a nice polish I snagged at the dollar store that is a pink blush/gold shimmer. Tried to catch a few pictures showing the effect! Anywho, the flowers are tulips, though I didn't intentionally set out to paint tulips. Painted most of the detail work with my metal toothpick tool. My dominant hand even turned out okay!

Country Hearts

Fun times with trying something more for Valentines without using pink. My heart-painting skills are improving! So...many....hearts. Anywho, I am totally a fan of dusky blue nail polish for some reason. Something about this reminds me of the old country decor style. Heh!

Blue Sparkles

Random nails done while just playing with polishes today. Started with a sheer sparkly base, then added swooshes in blue. Then that wasn't exciting enough, so I added in the white lines. Then some blue glitter, and finally black lines. Finally, I tossed on some loose blue hex glitter at the line origin point.

Valentines Envelopes

Getting some festive nails done! Had this idea for a while, just decided to try it out today. Didn't use any pink in these, but over the course of about 15 minutes the white just absorbed some of the red underneath and turned pink. Not sure if it's the polish I used, or if it's the topcoat to blame. I don't mind, it's rather an interesting effect! The red was completely dry, so I don't think that was to blame. Anywho, used striping tape and scotch tape for the envelopes. 'Sealed' the envelopes with some loose hex glitter.

Nails of Fail

I tried to do nails based on a pair of scrubs I like. Started on them a bit late at night, but all was going well. They were taking forever to dry, though. At first I thought maybe it was the thicker white creme polish I used for the base, but now I'm suspicious that it's a problem with the Sally Hansen HD line. I've had issues with three of them now where hours later and under a top coat they can still get bunged up. I had thought these were dry enough before going to bed, but overnight my thumb nail just got completely wonked up. Heh! Oh well, it was a good try at least. I will totally attempt this again later down the road!

I really need to practice with hearts a bit more. I end up liking my designs more when I don't plan anything and just go with the flow lately! Tried a different polish from that HD line and it too wanted to misbehave. Just this afternoon I picked up an actual proper base coat rather than just a nail strengthener, so I'll see if that helps when I use these polishes in the future.

Dripping Hearts

Fun times! I wanted to start doing some Valentine's themes, because when else will I have the excuse? However, I'm working up the willpower to try pink nails, because pink is evil. Also, I wanted to try out using some new polish I picked up the other day. First time I've decided to spend a little more to get the shnazzier stuff, but the two I picked are definitely love at first sight. Sally Hansen Debut-tint is a sheer gold shimmer that isn't noticeable until it catches the light and blinds everyone. Heh! Sally Hansen Mermaid's Tale is a beautiful blue and teal glitter. I thought at first that I would need a base color for the glitter, so after putting on the Debut-tint I sponged on a layer of darker blue polish. It ended up that Mermaid's Tale covered everything just the way I wanted, so yay for that!
And of course at the end I put on hearts with a dotting tool and thin point tool. Not the most amazing hearts ever, but at least it's dotting tool practice?

Blue Abstract

Not entirely certain what to call these nails, but I like 'em! Started painting to just try out some new polish I nabbed. I love the dollar store, just managed to pick up a good portion of the Sally Hansen HD line for $1 each! They're really sheer - in order to get this much color I had to use 3 or 4 coats. Love 'em, though! Anywho, just started with testing out the color. Then added a black swoosh. Then did the white lines. Then worked in the darker triangle. Then the silver, and finally random dots! For having no plan to them, I still really like how they came out.

Snow!

Falling snow on a blue background, yay! The weather felt like dumping an obscene amount of snow on us this week, so snow seemed appropriate a subject for nail art. Not my favorite nails ever, but they were fun at least. The darker smooge really made them pop at a distance. Absolutely in love with the blue Sally Hansen polish. Went on really nice and thick, most of these nails show just one coat.
